Greatest Game-Winner of All-Time?

Ok, Ok, so it wasn’t. Look, I am a total John Stockton Disciple…I still remember where I was, who I was with, the conversations that we had during the game, and about everything else that happened for the next four days after Stockton hit “the shot” in Houston. In fact, the only thing I think that could ever beat John Stockton sending the Utah Jazz to their first ever NBA Finals would be somebody on the team hitting a buzzer-beater to win it all. All that aside though, that shot by Sundiata Gaines last night was un-freakin-real. I’m talking Rex Chapmin-ish. Absolutely sick.

Honestly, the kid couldn’t have come through on a bigger night in the regular season. To go up against the Cav’s, to defy Lebron’s ridiculous comeback attempt, to hit a shot like that with a guy in your eye falling out of bounds on national TV? Welcome to the big leagues Mr. Gaines…you just guaranteed yourself a spot in the NBA. He was the spark plug that got them back in the game, and he put the icing on the cake. What a way to have your coming out party.

I’m not usually a huge fan of guys show-boating, but I was more than happy to see him up on the scorer’s table after that make. He deserved it, and more importantly, the Jazz needed that. We have lost way too many close games this year, and with the way the team has been playing lately, a play like that might just help them to continue in the right direction so that they can start to make some ground up in the west.

My hat goes off to you Sundiata. I didn’t sleep a wink last night after that shot, but it was the best sleepless night I have had in a long time.
